House Votes Itself A Raise

While media attention was focused on the immigration bill in the Senate, Paris Hilton and the fate of Scooter Libby, the House of Representatives quietly gave themselves a raise. This preposterous pork would certainly burn well to ignite a nation’s tender sensibilities, especially with the purse-strings tightening around everyone’s pulse given record defecits. As ineffectual and chicken-hearted as the Congress is…on both sides of the aisle…I am completely unsurprised that they could muster the togetherness to give themselves a hefty raise. It must be nice to be part of an organization where you can give yourselves raises, exempt yourselves from laws that apply to the little people (RIP Leona), and often make tidy fortunes while doing “public service”…what a sweet gig :-)
